The Effect Of Speed Pressure On Working Memory During...
Abstract This study examined the effects of speed pressure on working memory during mental arithmetic tasks. 392 undergraduate studentsââ¬â¢ working memory capacities were measured and participants were divided into high and low working memory groups. They were then randomly assigned into the fast or slow condition and tested with the critical stimuli compromised of addition equations. The findings showed that fast conditions result in higher error rates than the slow conditions. The speed pressure also caused high working memory individuals to shift from using rule based processing to associative processing whereas low working memory individuals used associative processing in both conditions. However, the study found that both groups showâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Previous studies (Beilock, 2008; Beilock, Kulp, Hot, Carr, 2004; Beilock Carr, 2005; Gimmig et al., 2006; Beilock DeCaro, 2007) have examined ââ¬Ëchoking under pressureââ¬â¢ and concluded that it occurs for those wi th high working memory (HWM) capacities whereas low working memory (LWM) individuals were not affected. Although this finding has been common amongst researchers, each have examined different factors contributing towards pressure induced failure, in an attempt to explain the phenomena and most accurately coincide with real life situations. According to Beilock et al., (2004), explicit monitoring and the Distraction Theory are reasons as to why skills may fail under pressure. Explicit monitoring, or self-focus, causes the disruption of automatic processes as individuals force conscious control over the task, causing poorer performance despite the extra effort and attention (Beilock et al., 2004). In contrast, the Distraction Theory claims that pressures fill the WM with worries and concerns over performance and task content which in consequence competes with the resources which are normally utilised for execution (Beilock et al., 2004). To date, most researchers have provided evidence in support for explicit monitoring and its effects of choking under pressure whilst the Distraction Theory has not been adequately
Leadership & Affecting Change in Public Health-Samples for Student
Question: Discuss about the Leadership and Affecting Change in Public Health. Answer: Leadership and Affecting Change in Public Health Part one: leaders versus managers and their role differ in public health Leaders are individuals within an organization with the ability to lead people within the organization towards achieving the intended objectives. In order to lead people within the organization, leaders influence employees behaviors in various ways in order to achieve organizational objectives. A manager on the other hand is described by MSG as, "somebody who formally drives individual and group endeavors to achieve shared objectives. The directors' obligations include: arranging to direct, observing and assessing crafted by at least one people". Leadership based on the two definitions can be classified as a form of management. Managers and leaders have the same obligation to other staff members. They both have to employ manipulation mechanism to achieve organizational goals. Many leaders of the world are made but not born as the as the say goes. According to various leadership reports, for an individual to become a good leader in any sector, such individual must gain experience, acquire knowledge, develop the ability to commit to the organization, be patience and most importantly, must be able to work with other individuals within the organization towards achieving the business goals. However, various sectors require varied skills, knowledge, and attitude. Public health as a sector is different with other sectors thus different skills are required. It is therefore appropriate for public health leaders to go through a never-ending process of self-development, evaluation training to achieve public health goals and accumulation of the required skills. On the other hand, some leadership theories support the statement that leaders are born and only goes through training and education to acquire and elevate their leadership skills. Even though these leadership theories are different, they all agree that a leader must acquire the essential skills. Leaders and managers should in this manner acquire the required skills in their line of work. Leaders and managers in public health According to great scholars, a public health leader should be visionary, make good and evaluated decisions, should be a good communicator as well as take risks to achieve the outline public health goals (Aarons et al. 2016). Leaders in the public health sector should have the conviction of their required values as well as have strong commitment ensuring that everyone in the nation is healthy. Public health officers according to the 16 key public health leadership principles described by Rowitz in his 2014 school of thought should be politically astute and can listen and take action on what the members of the public say (Rowitz, 2014). Moreover, public health leaders should have emotional intelligence, respectful of different cultures, must be focus towards the future, resilient and have to love public health obligations. Public health leaders according to these principles should also have a vivid understanding of team building and workers collaboration as the key factors for health i mprovement. Part two: leadership in the public health industry Interview one: The coordinator interviewed by email 27/03/18 Feedback obtained by mail 28th /03/ 18 Questions asked to see (diagram in appendix 1) Summary of answers received from the health coordinator To achieve this report, two leaders whose identities would not be disclosed were interviewed via email and response obtained through the same platform. The immediate person interviewed was operation and clinical coordinate with various employees under him such as the paramedics. The interviewee must govern the paramedics and coordination of day to day clinical operations (Rowitz, 2014). According to the individuals response, leadership is the act of listening to the junior staff as well as encouraging them to work towards the organizational goals. Based on his response to the questions, this individual has strong believes that he must make the paramedics to believe in providing services to the community. He states that even though there is a slight difference between public health management and other businesses, the main objective of leaders is to inspire staff members to achieve the organizational goals. He trusts that while there is a slight qualification between normal businesses administration and authority inside the wellbeing business that in general there ought not to be numerous distinctions. Leadership and management are constantly about motivating staff to accomplish to their most elevated standard. Regarding barriers, he believes he should overcome the barrier to convey quality administration incorporate; subsidizing, arrangement, inspirations of partners and legislative organization. He trusts the part of Public Health in completing the center elements of appraisal should include arrangement advancement and affirmation is constant quality change to keep up officer abilities and refresh current practices/strategies. His vision for Public Health in the 21st century is to expand staff abilities and move forward abroad projects to guarantee an overall change in wellbeing conveyance. He sees the key issues as; financing, staffing, preparing, and corpulence. He trusts open private organizations that deliver general wellbeing worries to be conceivable if rivalry to benefit isn't included. He doesn't trust that the general open has a satisfactory comprehension of Public Health, he trusts that training and advancement that clarifies the part of general wellbeing and general wellbeing arrangements would help in tending to this. He states in his answers that as a leader, he must work smart to overcome barriers within the sector through assessment and policy-making as well as development of quality assurance by updating current public health practices. According to the health coordinator, his main interest in relation to public health is to elevate staff skills and provide best services to the community. In his statement, he states that it is crucial for the government to integrate public health with the general health sector to achieve maximum health service provision. Critique According to the interview, the health coordinator has shown an indication he doesnt have qualities described by Rowitiz in his leadership model. The manager has both his staff as well as the overall community at heart (Karlberg, 2016). However, it will be very difficult to express and act upon his responsibilities based on the leadership style he prescribed in the interview. In various occasion, s is difficult to control a large group. Therefore, increasing number of staff members means reduced the time for supervision and inspiration which also reflect on performance (Rowitz, 2014). According to his job description, he has a minimum obligation to the community but his staff. Therefore based on his job obligation he should work more on his abilities as a leader which will have a greater impact when it comes to health promotion and service delivery integrating the 16 key public health leadership principles (Kuipers et al. 2014). Moreover, he finds it difficult to perfectly meet his o bligation as a result of him not implementing various principles of leadership. Interview two: CO interviewed by email 27th/ 03/ 18 Feedback received by email 28th /03/18 Questions asked to see (diagram in appendix 1) Summary of answers received from the CO The second interview was an interview with head CO stationed in Southport. She has responsibilities to evaluate junior COs, coordination of the health provision as well as general supervision of clinical officers and also mentorship of other paramedics under her jurisdiction. Her main role is technical management related to patient care in her workstation. Similar to the first interview the name of the interviewee will not be disclosed as requested before her interview. She said during the interview that she joined public health sector as a result of her fathers great achievement. She defined public health as an important industry that offers health treatment and cares to the general community and leadership as the ability to guide staff members to achieve the organizational goals one is given. According to the interview, she believes that a leader in the public health sector should be visionary, inspiring, imaginative, and experimental as well as change initiative. She further states that the leadership skills required by a public health officer should be different from those of leaders in other business industries. Regarding challenges, she believes that political interference, as well as financial limitations, are the main barriers towards public health service delivery. She stated in her interview that practices are required in public health to develop the required skills. She also stated policy development, assessment and quality assurance as other factors which can only be obtained through the development of the required skills (Van der Voort, 2015). Moreover, in during her interview, she mentioned that leaders are born but not made. As a result of her believing that leaders are born, she suggested that to develop required skills by the born leaders they have to undergo training, education which will help improve health service provision (Rowitz, 2014). She also states in her responses mentorship is crucial and that politics is important in public health as it leads to increased or reduced of the industry. Critique The second interviewee just as the previous interviewee strongly believe that public health leadership is slightly different form leadership in other sectors which is inverse to Rowitz school of thought (Smith et al. 2015). However, in line with the Rowitz argument she, places more emphasis on the wider community. Based on her position she cannot participate in writing policies and the making of required changes she believes in health promotion and provision best health care to the public. Part three: self-leadership style assessment Northhouse provides key information which an individual a paramedic can utilize for evaluation as well as perform self-ranking. Through the Northhouse I have been able to evaluate myself about the three key and distinct leadership types: human leadership, technical leadership and conceptual skills (South et al.2018). Success in these three skills approaches developed by Robert clearly indicates readiness and successful administration and leadership. In relation to technical type which deals with distinguished activities, I have 80% by averaging indicating that I can be a good paramedic who promotes appropriate and excellent technical skills as well as leading by example to other staff members (Northouse, 2009). This outcome is important for me as I expected this from the beginning. Another leadership approach is the leadership human which deals with emotional intelligence as well as the capability to work with other staff members. I have also received 78% which is not a surprise to m e as I believed in human leadership to be significant as this style enables an individual to engage with peer staffs as well as develop intuitive behaviors required for a leader. On the other hand, I scored far average on conceptual leadership approach. Conceptual skills deal with the ability to work with conceptual ideas as well as new concepts. Based on my low score on the conceptual skills, the inventory results suggest that I should go for more training to become a good leader with proper and all-round management abilities. I have been having difficulties in working with the imagination of case scenarios such as accident but performance well in the real world (Burke Friedman, 2011). The Northhouse inventory therefore suggest that conceptual approach is my weakness that I need to work on. On the other two approaches I have scored well, it is as a result of implementing the 16 key principles of public health leadership as outlined by Rowitz in the year 2014. I will continue to implement more of the 16 principle in my leadership style so that I can move high and commit to my roles as a leader. Much has been discussed as to whether leaders are born or made, but my take is the development of the required skills makes a perfect leader (Popescu Predescu, 2016). Thus mentorships, as well as training, will be appropriate for my leadership skills growth. Since I have not managed any staffs, all my skills need improvement with more energy directed to the development of conceptual skills. In conclusion, more leadership skills are required in the public health sector compared to other industries. Public health leaders should be developed, natured and mentored to assist when ready during the time of need. Moreover, to achieve public health goal as leaders, we must be strong and well equated with important public health skills based on the 16 key principles of public health leadership. According to Hugh Helco, to ââ¬Ëthink institutionallyââ¬â¢ means, learning about an institution and having utter most respect for it. Instead of thinking about an institution, one should focus on thinking within it. This means that one personalizes the institutionââ¬â¢s values within themselves, not only sharing the views and values of the institution, but also believing in them as their own. Completely assimilating the institutional values makes one work diligently because their selflessness creates a hard-working culture within individuals. They make conscious efforts to give their best in their duties because they have a sense of belonging and work with a high level of responsibility and awareness. Therefore, people are more likely to go out of their way to ensure that the objectives are effectively accomplished. For example, if the institution wants to cut down on the energy costs, one can be proactive and suggest using solar generators as opposed to only campaigning that the lights should be switched off when not in use. Good stewardship is fostered from thinking institutionally. Why is it difficult to think institutionally in this current era? In the wake of capitalism, what appeals the most to organizations is the idea of increasing their profit margins. These organizations are run by people who by nature always want more. Without proper morals and character within them, the selfish aspirations of personal gain become apparent. Whether for personal, social political or financial reasons, the selfishness to gain institutional benefits at the expense of others makes thinking institutionally extremely difficult. Embezzling of funds by a board member discourages those working for the betterment of the organization. Such ulterior motives by individuals cause increased levels of mistrust thereby making intuitional thinking pointless. Therefore, selfish motives, which consequently lead to mistrust, hinder people from thinking institutionally. 1. According to Terry Cooper, ââ¬Ëhigh citizenshipââ¬â¢ is a disciplined level of social structure that enables equal power sharing opportunities among its members. In such a case, there is absolute equality among peers and respect is given to ethical values and customs within the structure. High citizenship embraces the aspect of democracy, which means exercising the power vested in the leadership to better the society. It encompasses observing a set of rules and principles that follow ethical practices thereby governing the people. For this to happen, the citizens need to be fully aware of their rights, duties and responsibilities. Here, an element of legal awareness is effected. Legal awareness is providing the necessary set of rules and principles that will help society obey the expected ethical code of conduct. This provides a platform to which understanding the ethical values will help individuals carry out their obligations rightfully. Utilitarian techniques embrace the essence of majority rule. If majority of the people will benefit from the process, then it is adapted despite the repercussions it might have on the minority. Cost benefit analyses are an example of a utilitarian technique. The pros and cons of a process or situation are taken into account. If the benefits outweigh the costs, then the process is considered and amended to suit the majority. However, this method is not suited for our political heritage because it embraces the rule of the majority, therefore, sidelining the individual liberties of the minority group. Our political heritage respects the individual rights and liberties of everyone. Implementation of utilitarian techniques, though beneficial to the greater good, contrasts the political heritage that embodies the harmony of all individuals.

English Essay
English Essay English Essay Question 1: Describe combustion A combustion reaction or also known as burning is an exothermic chemical reaction where a ââ¬Å"fuelâ⬠compound is reacted with an oxidant to produce new product of oxide compound and energy which is usually in form of heat and light. During combustion the energy is used, one or more oxides are formed and large of amount of energy is released which can be used to power machine such as cars or burning of coal to run turbines producing electricity. There are two types of combustion, incomplete and complete. Complete combustion occurs when there is plenty of oxygen available and the products are usually carbon dioxide and water. Incomplete combustion occurs when there is less oxygen available; the products usually include carbon (soot) and/or carbon monoxide. Examples of combustion include burning of wood, metals or non-metals in air and hydrocarbons. Complete Combustion examples: 4Na + 3O2 2Na2O3 CH4 + 2O2 CO2 + 2H2O S + O2 SO2 Incomplete combustion examples: 2C + O2 2CO C2H5OH + 2O2 2CO + 3H2O Question 2: According to ââ¬Å"Kinetic theory of matterâ⬠, all matter is composed of particles (molecules, atoms, or ions) which are constantly moving. In solids, the particles can only vibrate in one place. In liquids, they are close together, but move around. In gases, they are far apart and flying in all directions. Kinetic energy is the energy an object possesses due to its motion. Temperature is a measure of the average ââ¬Å"KINETIC ENERGYâ⬠(rate of motion) of the particles. As the objects are heated up, their temperature increases so does the kinetic energy due to the added heat energy causes the increase in kinetic energy, therefore at higher temperature the particles move faster. Example: When the air inside of air balloon is heated up to 1000C by gas burner, the heat energy is added to make the air inside hot. Because gas molecules are not strongly attracted to each other, they are free to move about. Since the hot air is less dense than cool air as a result by the added heat energy force gas molecules apart and cause them to move faster and make collisions harder resulting in massive expansion of air balloon and it starts to float. If the hot air is let out and cool air enters, the air balloon goes down. Question 3 Explosions are just the uncontrolled fast reactions with a rapid increase in volume and release of energy in extreme manner, usually with generation of high temperature and release of gases. Explosions can occur when there are necessary conditions: 1. Fuel molecules are well mixed with air. 2. Source of ignition (spark, or flame). 3. There is no limit of flow of fuel to combustion area. For example, when a gas leak fills a room the fuel gas is mixed with air, any spark or flame can start reaction that accelerates so fast due to high concentration of gas molecules and oxygen molecules collide vigorously in suitable orientation and with sufficient energy that can break bonds of gas and oxygen to form new bonds, large amount of heat energy released and gas pressure creates a shockwave causing an explosion. Dust explosion is also one of the major explosions. Many materials which are commonly known to oxidise can generate a dust explosion such as coal, magnesium, grain, flour, powdered metals (aluminium and titanium). There are four necessary conditions for a dust explosion: 1. A combustible dust 2. High concentration of dust is suspended in the air 3. There is an oxidant ( typically atmospheric oxygen) 4. Source of ignition For example: coal dust can arise from mining of coals. Large piece of coal is difficult to burn in air. However, accumulation of coal dust suspended in air in an enclosed location can cause an explosion if it comes in contact with source of ignition. Since the dust particles have very large surface area due to English Essay English Essay Zach Martin-Funk Phillip Presswood 20 February 2015 Eng. 104 Wendell Allen Porth July 7, 1953, Colonel Wendell Porth was bornâ⬠¦a man who lived a life prioritizing but 3 things: his country, his family, and his faith. 34 Easy High-Protein Breakfasts Thatll Help You Lose Weight
34 Easy High-Protein Breakfasts That'll Help You Lose Weight Jumpstart your results with the right breakfast. Eat breakfast. Eat protein. If youre trying to lose weightââ¬âor just eat and live a bit healthierââ¬âthose are two tips you shouldnt ignore. And, if you combine them by starting each day with a high-protein breakfast, well, youre pretty much unstoppable. Eating at least 30 grams of protein at breakfast can help you feel satisfied and feel less hungry later in the day, explains Amy Goodson, R.D., a registered dietitian and nutrition consultant based in Dallas, Texas. This is great for women looking to lose weight. The trick, she says, is that protein takes longer to digest than traditional carbohydrate-heavy breakfast foods like cereal or muffins. And the longer it takes to digest, the less hungry youll feel and the more youll be able to stick to your healthy eating goals. For example, in one recent study, people who started their days with between 30 to 39 grams of protein ended up eating 175 fewer calories at lunchtime. And, in one Nutrition Metabolism study, dieters who increased their protein intake so that they were getting 30 percent of their daily calories from protein lost about 11 pounds in 12 weeks. Still, if youve ever tried following a high-protein diet, you know that upping your protein intake isnt always easy especially if you dont have your recipe arsenal stocked with high-protein breakfast ideas. Thats why we asked nutrition experts to get creative and share their favorite high-protein breakfast ideas. Whether you like sweet or savory, exotic or comforting, vegan or paleo, on-the-go or sitting down, there is something everyone will love on this list. BLUEBERRY-ALMOND BAKED OATMEAL Oatmeal on its own is a delicious breakfast full of fiber and whole grains, but you can round it out and amp up the nutrition by adding flax meal, chia seeds, soy or almond milk, or protein powder, says Kimberly M. Neva, M.S., R.D., a dietitian and bariatric specialist at Loyola University Medical Center. Thats right, you can stir flavored or unflavored protein powder right into your oatmeal. Top with blueberries and almonds for extra fiber, healthy fats, and vitamins. OAT YOGURT CUPS Another option to increase the protein in your oatmeal is to add a couple of dollops of Greek yogurt, Neva says. Sprinkle with cinnamon for extra flavor. This pack 11 grams of protein per serving and is easy to take on the road with you, she says. Plus, you get filling fiber and healthy probiotics. MINI EGG FRITTATAS If eggs for breakfast sounds boring, try these individual frittatas, Neva says. Mix whole eggs and extra egg whites together with sautà ©ed vegetables. For even more protein, add some turkey sausage or cheese. Simply pour the mixture into muffin tins and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until you can insert a knife in them and it comes out clean (in a standard-size muffin tin, that will be about 20 to 25 minutes). These are a perfect option if youre not a morning person, as they can be made ahead and then reheated quickly on your way out the door, she adds. TURKISH FRIED EGG Looking for an exotic flavor? Try this modified version of a popular Turkish dish, courtesy of Marina Rà ¶sser, a nutritionist and recipe author. Sautà © red onion, garlic, frozen spinach, and sliced chili peppers in a little olive oil. Once the veggies are soft, add an egg or two and finish cooking. Top with full-fat Greek yogurt, lemon juice, salt. The combination creamy yogurt, fragrant olive oil, spicy chili and lemon is irresistible, she says. COTTAGE CHEESE BOWL When it comes to increasing your protein intake, low-fat cottage cheese is an option many people overlook. The nutrition, taste, cost, and ease of preparation make it a great addition to your breakfast rotation, Rà ¶sser says. (Note: Low-fat cottage cheese has more protein per serving than full-fat, although both are great options.) She recommends filling a bowl with cottage cheese, mixing in some beans, and topping with tomatoes, paprika, salt, pepper. CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER PORRIDGE Sometimes you just have to have something sweet for breakfast and with this simple dish you can have your protein and the taste you crave, Rà ¶sser says. Mix together cooked oats, natural peanut butter, dark cacao, and sweet banana. Top with yogurt or your choice of milk. MINTY QUARK SHAKE Never heard of quark? Its a German-style yogurt, similar to Greek yogurt, but with more protein and a texture like cheesecake. This thicker consistency makes it ideal for whipping up a decadent, creamy protein shake. And remember a protein shake doesnt always have to be sweet, Rà ¶sser adds. Her favorite concoction: Quark, cucumber, mint, a splash of milk, and a pinch of salt. SHASHUKA This egg, onion, and tomato dish is a breakfast staple in Israel. In fact, the name literally means breakfast, Rà ¶sser says. Simply cook a sauce of sliced onions, red bell peppers, tomatoes, and paprika. Place two cooked eggs on a slice of whole-grain bread and smother it in the sauce. Top with parsley leaves, chili flakes, salt, and pepper for more flavor. CRUNCHY SCRAMBLED EGGS Take your basic scrambled eggs to the next level by adding pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, flaxseeds, cherry tomatoes, and arugula. This combo adds protein, fiber, flavor, and a satisfying crunch to an otherwise ordinary dish, Rà ¶sser says. SMOKED SALMON TOAST Fish is an excellent breakfast food. Not only does it have a ton of protein, but the healthy omega-3 fats can help everything from your skin to your brain. Breakfast is all about simplicity, so Rà ¶sser recommends keeping things easy by buying smoked salmon or trout and eating it on whole-grain toast. Optional toppings include cottage cheese, grated horseradish, dijon mustard, chopped parsley, chopped dill, chopped chives, lemons, or salt and pepper. YOGURT PARFAIT Start your morning off right with a simple parfait made of yogurt, berries and muesli, suggests Sonja Kukuljian, Ph.D., R.D., group general manager nutrition at Freedom Foods. Muesli is a whole grain cereal often eaten uncooked. There are lots of variations, so pick one high in fiber and low in sugar; Kukuljian suggests one containing barley, since its got both fiber and protein. POACHED EGGS ON SOURDOUGH Put a twist on standard eggs by poaching an egg in a little vinegar, Kukuljian says. Add a slice of whole-grain sourdough toast (a source of pre- and probiotics) and a drizzle of olive oil, and youve got a healthy, filling meal. VEGAN PROTEIN MUFFINS Protein has an important place in the vegan diet, and you can still get plenty of it without ever touching an animal product, says Rebecca Cafiero, a certified holistic health and integrative nutritionist and a TEDx Speaker. Her favorite plant-based breakfast is muffins made by cooking gluten-free oats in pea protein milk and adding a dash of coconut oil, almond butter, flaxseed, cinnamon, and blueberries. Mix to muffin-batter consistency. You can eat it right then or scoop into muffin tins and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 20 minutes for a portable breakfast. (Hit the reset buttonââ¬âand burn fat like crazy with The 2 Week Diet: Melt Away 6 Pounds Unwanted Stubborn Body Fat in Just 14 Days) VEGAN SMOOTHIE Protein smoothies are a tried-and-true healthy breakfast, but vegans may feel left out of the smoothie love as they dont do whey or egg proteins. No problem, Cafiero says, there are plenty of vegan-friendly protein powders. She likes to blend brown rice and pea protein powder with coconut oil, flaxseed, pea protein milk, spinach, blueberries, and a small amount of stevia and cinnamon. This provides a healthy serving of protein along with vital fats, vitamins, fiber, and micronutrients. CRUSTLESS MINI QUICHES You cant go wrong with eggs and veggies in the morning, and you can get both in these grab-and-go crustless quiches, says Jennifer Clemente, M.S., a board-certified nutritionist. Simply mix eggs with any type of vegetables you likeââ¬âchopped sweet potato, asparagus, kale, and red onion are her favoritesââ¬âadd seasonings like garlic, sea salt, parsley, and cilantro. Bake in the oven until you can insert a knife in them and it comes out clean. These are loaded with fiber, protein and an incredibly wide range of nutrients including vitamins A, C, E, K, B1, B2, B6, and B12, as well as folate and chromium, she says. COLLAGEN SHAKE In the world of protein powders, collagen deserves more love, Clemente says. Collagen powder is pure protein thats cheap, flavorless, and dissolves well in shakes. She likes to blend it with plant milk, berries, chia seeds, and nut butter. The best part? Collagen is no ordinary proteinââ¬âit may help give you plump glowing skin, reduce joint pain, strengthen nails, hair and teeth, and can improve intestinal conditions and digestion, she adds. AMPED-UP AVOCADO TOAST Avocado toast is the trendiest breakfast food right now, and with good reason. It provides a healthy dose of fats and fiber. But it can be improved, says Alana Kessler, M.S., a certified dietitian nutritionist. Give yours a nutritional boost by adding an egg or two and a sprinkle of nutritional yeast. This adds filling protein and B vitamins. PROTEIN PANCAKES Now you can still have your favorite breakfast dish and get your protein too with this recipe, courtesy of Charlie Seltzer, M.D., a doctor specializing in weight loss. Simply blend until smooth 1/2 cup each of egg whites, oatmeal, and 1% cottage cheese along with 1 teaspoon baking soda. Cook the batter like a pancake [FOR HOW LONG?]. These pancakes may help lower your risk of cardiovascular disease and contain lots of protein for the number of calories. Plus, he promises that the finished product doesnt taste like eggs or cottage cheese! PROTEIN BREAKFAST SANDWICH When you hear breakfast sandwich, you probably think egg McMuffins. Seltzers sandwich recipe, however, packs in the protein and fiber for minimal calories without sacrificing taste. Start with a toasted high-fiber English muffin. Add an egg, a slice of cheese, and two slices of Canadian bacon or ham. Feel free to wrap it in wax paper if youre missing that fast-food feeling. EGGS-N-GREENS Leafy green vegetables are one of the best foods you can eat for your health, but most of us dont fancy them plain. So try them as a nest for eggs, as recommended by Brooke Alpert, R.D., author of The Diet Detox. Grab several large handfuls of greens (spinach, kale, mustard, etc.), and put in a hot pan. Stir until wilted, about one minute. Top with two eggs cooked to runny-yolked perfection. Add a little salt and pepper, and enjoy. OMELETTE How are we this far down the list and have not even mentioned the classic omelette yet? Consider it fixed. Omelettes are a great way to combine eggs with flavorful veggies, meats, and cheeses for a protein-packed nutritious breakfast. My favorite omelette is two eggs cooked with mushrooms, onions, and cheese, topped with basil and tomatoes, says Elin Ãâ"stman, Ph.D., nutrition researcher and founder of Good Idea. Eggs are a great source of protein, the different colored veggies are packed with polyphenols, and the cheese provides calcium and flavor. TOFU SCRAMBLE Surprise: Scrambles dont have to be eggs. You can still get the flavor and protein by subbing tofu in for eggs, says Shahzadi Devje, R.D., a certified diabetes educator. Not only does tofu provide protein, but its also a great source of calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc, she says. All you do is mash firm tofu and stir in a mixture of sautà ©ed onion, garlic, and red bell pepper (or your veggies of choice). Then cook on the stove. She recommends serving your scramble with either sprouted grain bread, roti, or breakfast potatoes. ALMOND BUTTER CRACKERS Want something simple, protein-packed, and filling that doesnt require any prep or cooking? Devjes favorite super-easy breakfast is rye crackers spread with almond butter and sprinkled with nuts and dried fruits. Add a glass of soy milk and you have a serving of protein in less time than it takes you to look up a recipe. VANILLA ALMOND CHIA PUDDING Chia seeds are packed with protein and fiber, but thats not what makes them specialââ¬âfoodies love them for their ability to add a pudding-like texture to sweet treats. Try this recipe from LA-based dietitian, Danielle Judson: Combine 3 tablespoons chia seeds with 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any other plant-based milk of choice), 2 tablespoons almond butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and a dash of cinnamon in a mason jar. Stick the entire thing in the fridge overnight. In the morning, add a sprinkle of blueberries and almonds, and youve got breakfast pudding to go. CHOCOLATE POMEGRANATE OVERNIGHT OATS If even cooking oatmeal is beyond your abilities in the mornings (and youll get no judgement from us!), overnight oats are the perfect solution. Try this nutrient-rich, protein-packed variety, courtesy of Lauren Harris-Pincus, M.S., R.D.N., author of The Protein-Packed Breakfast Club. Combine oats, unsweetened almond milk, plain Greek yogurt, chia seeds, chocolate protein powder, and pomegranate seeds. The balance of protein and fiber from the oats and fruit will delay digestion and help to keep your energy levels up much longer than a high-carb meal, plus the chia seeds absorb up to 10 times their weight in water to help keep you full, she says. BREAD PUDDING IN A MUG Bread pudding is the ultimate comfort food in the morning, but it doesnt have to be a calorie bomb. Indulge with this healthy version from Harris-Pincus. Mix one egg, 2 tablespoons vanilla whey protein powder, a packet of stevia, and 2 tablespoons milk. Fold in a chopped apple and two slices of cubed whole-grain bread. Pour in a mug, and microwave for one minute. Top with syrup and cinnamon. BREAKFAST WRAP Smoked salmon on a paleo wrap with roasted vegetables, greens, and avocado is the go-to breakfast for Elizabeth Trattner, chef and integrative medicine specialist. This yummy wrap is high in healthy fats and fiber, which keep you full longer and helps you lose weight and lower cholesterol, she says. The best part, however, is how customizable this is. Swap out the low-carb wrap for a whole-grain wrap, trade the salmon for chicken or eggs, and use any type of veggies you like. HARD-BOILED EGGS AND QUINOA Make a big batch over the weekend: Bring water to rolling boil on stove, place eggs in pan, cover, and remove from heat. Let it sit for 12 minutes. If you have a few more minutes, Goodson suggests pairing your hard-boiled eggs with cooked quinoa, which is also high in protein, and berries. BREAKFAST TACOS Tacos are an anytime food, as shown by this recipe for breakfast tacos, courtesy of Jerlyn Jones, M.S., R.D.N. Take a whole-grain wrap or taco shell, add black beans, scrambled eggs, lettuce, salsa, and avocado slices. The beans and eggs provide protein, while the avocado provides healthy fats and the veggies bring the vitamins. Plus, its perfectly portable. CRUNCHY TOAST Who doesnt love toast in the morning? But the regular butter-and-jam variety is little better than a doughnut when it comes to nutrition. Add protein and nutrients with Jones toast. Start with whole-grain bread, spread it with a nut butter of your choice, and sprinkle with chia seeds. This combo provides protein along with a hefty dose of fiber and fats. PROTEIN MOCHA Good news for coffee lovers: Upping your protein at breakfast can be as simple as adding a scoop or two of protein powder to your large coffee. This genius trick comes from Adrienne Daly, a nutrition coach based in Houston,. Her favorite is to get a grande sized Cold Brew from Starbucks and a serving of chocolate protein powder to make it a mocha. TURKEY AND SALSA Just because its a dinner food doesnt mean you cant eat it for breakfast. In fact, last nights leftovers can make some of the most nutritious breakfasts, Daly says. Meat and vegetables, dinnertime staples, can easily be reheated and enjoyed. Her go-to is ground turkey topped with a little salsa for extra flavor. TURMERIC EGGS Scrambled eggs turn into a whole new meal by adjusting the spices and other add-ins. Think beyond shredded cheese and include superfood spices like turmeric, cayenne, and cumin, says Josh Axe, certified nutritionist, author of Eat Dirt, and co-founder of Ancient Nutrition. Its a simple way to add more nutrition to your protein. If youââ¬â¢ve never incorporated benefit-rich turmeric into your morning meals, prepare for a life-changing experience, he says. This powerful herb has shown to help regulate cholesterol and manage blood sugar. MEDITERRANEAN MUFFINS Eggs, canned salmon, and feta are the only ingredients in the Mediterranean breakfast muffins that Rima Kleiner, M.S., R.D., author of Dish on Fish, makes. They may be simpleââ¬âsimply combine and bake in muffin tins (set your oven to 350 degrees) for about to 20 to 25 minutesââ¬âbut theres nothing basic about their nutrition. They pack plenty of protein and healthy fats, all in a portable, tasty package. Make a large batch and freeze extras to be microwaved on busy mornings.(Hit the reset buttonââ¬âand burn fat like crazy with The 2 Week Diet: Melt Away 6 Pounds Unwanted Stubborn Body Fat in Just 14 Days)8.4k Views à ·

Adult stem cells Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Adult stem cells - Essay Example Stem cells are responsible for tissue or organ formation during prenatal life, and also for further growth. They are also responsible for repairing and regeneration of internal body system. This internal replenishing system works continuously throughout our life span. These cells display important attributes, which distinguishes them from normal cells. The cell division of stem cell gives rise to new stem cell or turned into specialized cell with definite function such as a muscle cell, a red blood cell, or a brain cell. In vivo or in vitro stimuli activate these cells to acquire special functions by becoming part of tissue- or organ-specific cells. Stem cells in the gut and bone marrow are at continuous task to repair and replace injured or eroded tissues, and therefore they multiply regularly by a process of cell division. In the organs like the pancreas and the heart, they are generated under certain physiologic conditions (http://stemcells.nih.gov/info/basics/basics4.asp). The ma jor breakthroughs in stem cell research will able to figure out clearly the development of an organism from a single cell. The most of the work is reported on two types of stem cells embryonic stem cells and non-embryonic stem cells. There is a recent introduction of genetically "reprogrammed" stem cell termed as induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) in 2006. Stem cell therapy is administered through local delivery or systemic infusion, of autologous or allogeneic cells. This aids in restoring the viability or functioning of damaged and malfunctioned tissues (Lu, Zhang & Jin, 2009). Non-embryonic stem cells are also called as ââ¬Ëadult stem cellsââ¬â¢. They are undifferentiated cells, found throughout the body of animals and humans in differentiated tissue or organ after the embryonic growth. They are also termed as somatic stem cells which are responsible for building different specialized cell types. These cells play pivotal

The Impressive architectural structure of the Parthenon Term Paper
The Impressive architectural structure of the Parthenon - Term Paper Example The buildingââ¬â¢s architecture was done by Kallicrates and Iktinos and supervised by Phidias. In this regard, the style incorporated in its design is known as the Doric style. Moreover, the building included other characteristics that are ionic in nature such as the Freize (Stevens, 139). Incidentally, the Freize traversed the inner walls on the upper region as well as the Pedimental statues and along the Metopes that constituted the sculpture that decorated the Parthenon. Evidently, the fascination and remarkable nature of the building is credited with its innovative architectural masterpiece. From both a lay and informed personââ¬â¢s perspective, the architecture of the Parthenon is synonymously impressive. Greek temples were synonymously constructed with three types of columns. These were the Doric, Corinthian and Ionic. The difference among the orders is evident from the proportions. For example, the Ionic columns were slimmer and taller, while the Doric columns were shorter and thicker. The order were however more distinguishable in terms of the tops of the columns. In this regard, the Ionic tops have the curlicues also known as the volutes, the Corinthian tops were synonymous with acanthus leaves while the Doric tops have the most simplistic design. The Parthenon is constituted by the Ionic and Doric orders (Waddell, 18). Evidently, the amazing view is accentuated by its positioning on the Acropolis, the columns made of marble emitting power and strength as well as its immense scale (Waddell, 20). However, a deeper insight to its architecture reveals intricate skills that are deserving of praise. Evidently, the entire building has been constructed from a subjective point of basis as opposed to and objective one, Moreover, the building was not constructed to be reflective of mathematical accuracy but an adaptation to the spectators eyes. This is in recognition to the numerous optical refinements that are
